- You can download web page builders that work through a drag-and-drop system (Elementor, WPBakery, Divi, or WP Beaver Builder).
- You don’t need to worry about proper file hierarchies because WordPress handles your page, image, and video files for you.
- You can download tons of free themes providing features like sticky headers, animations, social media links, and more. If you think of it, there’s a plugin for WordPress that makes it work.
In conclusion, a content management system speeds up website building and maintenance time. As a small business owner, this is vital, especially if you’re doing it yourself.
2. A Cloud-based File System Like Dropbox:
When I started building websites it was difficult to manage them all because I wanted to work on the go. But If I was away from my desktop computer I realized I didn’t have a specific photo, video, or copy of my content to put onto the site.
Using Dropbox or another cloud-based file management system such as Google Drive helps you keep all your files with you on the go.
You can access them on your mobile phone, iPad, or laptop, no matter where you are.
This also saves a ton of space on your PC.
I have a gaming PC that I built websites on, but the hard drive is only a solid state drive with 500 GB of space.
So I keep all my work saved in the cloud on Dropbox.
Having a subscription to one of these platforms also helps you carry fewer devices.
Before having access to one. I was constantly copying and pasting files between a thumb drive and the computer.
Now, if you create a new logo or take a new photo. BAM, it’s available on all your devices and you’re able to work on the go.
3. WooCommerce For Your Online Sales:
If you own a small brick-and-mortar store your website will need eCommerce abilities. With eCommerce, you can expand your reach much farther than your town.
But eCommerce adds another thing you need to manage on the website. You have to create EVERY, SINGLE, PRODUCT. You have to price it and manage stock, sales tax, and shipping costs.
So how does WooCommerce help?
- WooCommerce is a plug-in for WordPress. It works with your CMS to help you manage products, payments, and shipping.
- The plug-in allows you to upload Excel files with all your products to make it quick and easy. You can even create product variations and add-ons to upsell your customers.
- This plugin handles all types of products whether they be downloadable, physical, or subscriptions.
- You can categorize, sort, and filter search bars on your website.
- You can customize shipping costs and taxes just by typing it in.
But the best part as business owners is how WooCommerce integrates with all the major payment platforms like Stripe, PayPal, and Square.
Nothing beats seeing those online sales go straight into your bank account.
4. Yoast SEO:
Yoast SEO is another plugin for WordPress that assists with managing your website’s SEO.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and it’s how your website becomes ranked on Google, and then found by website visitors.
How does it help you manage your website? Let’s take a more in-depth look.
- Websites have to be optimized for specific keywords people are searching for. For example, you have a travel agency website. Someone might be searching for “Travel Agency Richmond, VA. Or whatever local city they are in. Yoast will help you place this keyword in the proper places with the proper density. That will help Google rank your website higher.
- Yoast also has a tool that allows you to find keyword synonyms. Those are called related keywords. They tell Google more about your site’s topic without using the same keyword too many times.
- SEO is a long and complicated process. It can drag on and take a lot of time to manage on your website. Yoast has a large blog full of information explaining all the moving parts and video lessons to assist you.
Most of the time when you hire a website management company, SEO is separate due to how intense it can be.

All the hosting companies provide a website management tool called cPanel.
CPanel is a piece of software that allows you to manage the backend of your website.
In more layman’s terms, it’s the server side.
In even MORE layman’s terms where the website is saved.
Here is a list of things you can do with cPanel.
- Updating your website preferences.
- Manage multiple websites and domain names.
- Set up and manage business email accounts.
- Manage your website’s database.
- It contains all of your site files.
- You install a CMS like WordPress with it.
- Back up your website so it isn’t lost.
But that is not everything. You can check certain stats like bandwidth, CPU usage, Eros, and visitors.
6. Google Analytics & Google Search Console
When you are managing a website it isn’t all about just putting things on it.
You have to manage the website traffic and what people are doing on it as well.
With Google Analytics you can track your website visitors’ page views, click-through rate, time spent on the website, and more.
Google Search Console: This is different than Google Analytics.
On Search Console, you can see how many clicks, impressions (search result views without a click), click-through rate, and average keyword position.
But you can also see how many backlinks and domains are linking to your website, its mobile health, and more.
7. Social Media Management With Website Integration
When you are running a website it doesn’t work that well alone.
What works best for getting your name and business out there is combining that website with a good social media presence.
That means having your social media posts scrolling on your page to increase interactivity.
You want everyone to be able to see your posts on the website and social media at once.
But this can be annoying to do separately.
Nobody wants to design posts, then post to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, and THEN go to the website and post updates about your social media.
But how do you manage your website and social media together and have it run automatically?

I personally recommend using SEMRush for this as well.
But you have to pay extra for the service.
It’s well worth the cost since you can schedule posts that appear on your social media and website social sliders simultaneously.
But there are tons of other software out there that will handle the job.
8. Google Pagespeed Insights & Lighthouse

This is a website set up by Google that scans your website and tells you about its speed, health, size, and problems.
It will spit out scores for mobile and desktop health.
You can use this information to determine if your website is actually working properly.
A healthy website should load in under 3s on mobile and under 1.5s on a computer.
If it doesn’t do that then you are losing tons of customers.
No one has patience on the internet.
Second, Google purposely will rank your website below your competitors if your website is slower or not as “healthy” as theirs.
We use both of these along with SEMRush to audit the websites we manage and make sure they are lightning-fast and performing at the best of their ability.
